Periphytic and epibenthic in stagnant and slow running freshwater; also in riparian and lacustrine wetlands and paddy fields; occasionally in river estuaries, athalassic saline and coastal brackish waters; among submerged (macrophytes, moss) and semi-emerse (reed, sedges) vegetation, on mud, and detritus-rich sediments, rarely tychoplanktonic; euryhaline, prefers circum-neutral to alkaline pH (Jersabek & Bolortsetseg, 2010) [Ref.18457].
