Taxonomic / nomenclatural notes: • ?Cephalodella rotunda ɶ bryophila after Donner (1970) [Ref.17188], according to Koste (1978) [Ref.17338].
• Described by Koste (1978) [Ref.17338] from personal communication with Reed, who is deemed to be directly responsible for the name and thus receives authorship (ICZN Art.50.1.1.). • The taxonomic identity of this "subspecies" remains unclear; original figures show C. g. keta without an eyespot (frontal eyespot present in C. gracilis), and 7 (?) vitellary nuclei (only 4 in C. gracilis). Its status relative to C. rotunda Wulfert / C. rotunda bryophila Pawłowski merits closer scrutiny! Morphology and ecology at least suggest close relationship. |
