Taxonomic / nomenclatural notes: The taxonomic status of Euchlanis parva Rousselet relative to E. oropha Gosse has recently been under debate. While in the latest revision of the genus Koste (1978:139) [Ref.17338] maintained both as valid species, Segers (2007) [Ref.16970] synonymized them, giving priorty to Euchlanis oropha Gosse. We here agree with the former author to retain both names as valid, because: as can be judged from Rousselet's specimens (now deposited in the NHM collection in London), the short and broadly blade shaped toes of E. oropha, narrowing at their bases are highly characteristic and diagnostic, and allow to easily distinguish it from E. parva. The latter, albeit being similar in size and overall shape, has differently shaped and much narrower toes.
