Koste & Terlutter's (op. cit.) record of A. aper from N-Germany is erroneously illustrated by the figure that was used in the original description of Aspelta tilba Koste & Shiel from Tasmania (Koste, W;R J Shiel (1987): Hydrobiologia, 147). • Type designated by Harring (1913) [Ref.17236], but can not be found in the USNM collection (CDJ, Oct.2001).

Ecology summary: Littoral habitats in freshwater lakes, ponds, streams, and rivers; periphytic, particularly among decaying macrophytes; also in peat bogs. Seems to prefer neutral to slightly acidic conditions, mostly in summer and fall (Jersabek & Bolortsetseg, 2010) [Ref.18457].	Food: Carnivorous: microinvertebrates, including rotifers, particularly bdelloids.
